PROGRAMME GOALS AND OBJECTIVES: The primary aim of this CME talk is to enhance participants’ understanding of the clinical significance, diagnostic evaluation, and management strategies for proteinuria. Proteinuria, a key marker for kidney disease, often signals underlying systemic or renal conditions requiring timely intervention. This session will equip healthcare providers with the knowledge to accurately assess and categorize proteinuria based on clinical presentations, such as transient, orthostatic, or persistent proteinuria.
Key objectives include:
- Reviewing the pathophysiology and causes of proteinuria, including glomerular, tubular, and overflow proteinuria.
- Outlining appropriate diagnostic investigations, including urine dipstick, 24-hour urine collection, and protein-to-creatinine ratios.
- Exploring the clinical implications of proteinuria in conditions such as chronic kidney disease, diabetes, and hypertension.
- Discussing evidence-based management strategies, including lifestyle interventions, pharmacologic therapies, and referral to specialists when needed.
This session aims to empower healthcare professionals to adopt a structured approach, improving patient outcomes through early detection and targeted treatment.
