PROGRAMME GOALS AND OBJECTIVES
Overall Goal:
To equip primary care clinicians with practical, locally applicable strategies to improve diagnosis and control of asthma and allergic rhinitis, optimizing outcomes using evidence-based guidelines and resource-appropriate therapies.
Learning Objectives (participants should be able to):
- Apply updated diagnostic criteria and severity assessments for asthma and allergic rhinitis in Jamaican/Caribbean primary care settings.
- Select step-wise pharmacotherapy tailored to symptom control, comorbidities, and access.
- Translate global guidelines into practical workflows in general practice clinics.
- Demonstrate correct inhaler and nasal spray techniques and counsel on adherence.
- Identify red flags for referral and coordinate multimodal care, including patient education.
DESCRIPTION OF EDUCATIONAL METHODOLOGY TO BE USED
- Interactive case-based lectures (two 60-minute sessions) with integrated Q&A.
- Demonstration & coaching on device technique (inhalers, spacers, nasal sprays).
- Guideline-to-practice translation with simplified algorithms and “clinic-ready” action plans.
- Panel discussion for real-world case scenarios, interactive audience participation, and best-practice sharing contextualized to local realities.
METHOD OF PROGRAMME EVALUATION
- Pre-/Post-activity knowledge checks using poll questions .
